I met a man in 2003. Didn't find out he was married for nearly 2 years. He promised to take care of me, a home, allowance, etc.
Then he reneged. Can I sue him for emotional distress?

Your emotional distress will go away if you forgive him.
Dr Phil says the prison of unforgiveness unlocks from the inside.
If you have a hard time forgiving someone, get to know Jesus, He'll teach you how to do it.

Emotional Distress is a valid personal injury claim. If you can get a little legal education and file the suit yourself you can easlly rain on his parade, win or loose. He will have to pay for an attorney to answer the suit, at least $2500 to start, plus about $1000 per hearing thereafter. If he fails to answer in 30 days you win automatically (by default) and get the judgement in your favor.
Then you can REALLY mess with him. sounds like he needs it.

I doubt if you could find a lawyer to take your case. Emotional distress is very hard to prove in a court and you would not really win I don't think. Why don't you win by letting his wife know the kind of slime she is married to? That way she can win too.

I doubt it. To prove Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, you have to prove he meant to cause you emotional distress when he did whatever he did.
It's a safe bet that finding out that you've been dating a married man after two years would be distressing, but you simply aren't going to get a jury to believe he ever wanted you to find out.

Stranger things have happened!
But how could you go 2 years without knowing? Most people are not that smart, to engage in a relationship for this amount of time and still keep everything a secret. You are not that dumb either!
Were I on a jury (unless there is more to this) I would not grant you anything!

Did you have this in a written agreement? if not you have to cut your losses and move on you should have bailed out when you found out he was married didnt that give you an indication as to what type of man you were dealing with?

You might find a lawyer to take the case. Unless you have something in writing, that he signed, I'm afraid you have very little chance of winning any law suit.

No you can't
Edit:
No lawyer in his right mind would take this case...lol. Besides the man has the right to change his mind.
And it doesn't sound like there was ever intent to marry.....sounds like you were to be a mistress and you expected him to take care of you.
No one puts anything like this in writing..lol...perhaps a pre-nup or even a ring...both would show intent to marry...but you have mentioned neither.
Besides...whats your emotional distress?
The fact you can't sponge off him anymore and he cut you off financially?
GMAB...Have some dignity and take care of yourself.

The fact that he lied about his marriage should've shown you what kind of person he was before you believed the rest of the BS that came out of his mouth.
