I purchased a item only to realise the emails which looked ligit were actually fake, as a result i am out of pocket $650.I am really not happy as you could emagine. The police are involved but they say i will be lucky to get the money back. The question i was wanting to ask is how do i find the series of numbers which comes with each email that gives an address as to where the pc is they were using. I understand they could have been using even a internet cafe but ist worth a try. The ploice were wanting these numbers and i cant find them.

Wow, I really don't know... Please tell me you actually made a purchase on the E-bay site and not from an e-mail claiming to re-list an item?
That is one of the biggest scams yet.
If it were through E-bay, they will have all the sellers info. If not, perhaps your e-mail service provider can assist you. Also, if you paid through Paypal, they should be able to help.
Have you checked into it? Please let us know?
Wish you the best and good luck catching this thief!

In Outlook, open your email from them and select options in the view menu. Look at the bottom where it says Internet headers and look for the "received from" line. An IP address looks like 132.43.54.22.
As long as you are aware that these can be spoofed.
If you are using a different program other than outlook, look for something similar to "show headers" or search the help function of the program. If you only have a web interface (yahoo web mail), show headers is also there.

Depending which email service your using it may differ. To reveal the IP address of the sender its in your email settings. I'm making the assumption that your using Yahoo! Mail. Go into your mail account and click Options the Mail Options, click Accounts, click Add or Edit Account on that page click Options, click General Preferences, scroll down to the message section and select Show all headers on incoming messages. Now click Save. And go to the email in question and it should show all the info IP address and such.
[The steps described above are if your using Yahoo! Mail Beta. Its almost the same if your not using the Yahoo! Mail Beta].

You're talking about the IP address. All computers and servers connected will have an IP. Look at the headers of the emails you got and they will be listed there. You may have to choose some options in your email program so it shows the headers you need to see.

It depends what email site or software you use. Generally the 'ip address' which is what you're looking for can be found in 'full headers' of the email message.
So look for an option that says 'display full headers' or something like that...

Feel sorry for you.
In this case, you should be contacting eBay stating your details of transaction. or maybe email you received. They should be able to assist you.
Don't trust anything on the Internet unless you know your reliable ones.

you also need to contact ebay with this. They handle these kinds of problems as well. You have to file a complaint with them about the merchandise.
