( Homohateria )
There is a guy on the Yahoo message boards who claims this is real?
I would like your thoughts on this.
Many thanks.

He said,

"Homohateria is a new word but it is a very real word with powerful meaning and it is also more correct than homophobia PERIOD."

The best I can find is the fear of sharing food or clothing with a homosexual....The fear of germs or disease spreading from a homosexual to anyone else. Please do not thumbs down me...this is the answer to this question through research. I do agree with a few of the others be VERY careful who you listen to as far as "new" words and "powerful meaning" people can be very broad in casting new vocabulary. I researched the definition of hateria, ironically it is also a term in a popular video game.

I think he's talking rubbish - it is not a real word that I can find in any current dictionary. He might feel that there should be an alternative to the word 'Homophobia' including a reference to 'Hate' (antipathy not being strong enough) if he is using the www.dictionary.com definition ie:

'unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality'

www.http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Homophobic

However if you look at the Oxford English Dictionary definition of Homophobia is:
'An extreme hatred or fear of homosexuality and homosexuals'
(sorry no link, believe it or not, I do actually own a hard copy of the English dictionary !!!!!)

So depending on where you are from there is a different definition, he may well not be English & has not seen this definition ... could be a case of people who aggresively state facts are usually the least well informed .... ??? !!! Could just be he has a massive ego/chip on his shoulder & fancies himself as a creator of a new word ...... but I think he's talking cr** :) !!!!

Actually, _hateria_ is a genus of New Zealand lizard, a very old species, with similarities to species found from the Mesozoic.

So _homo hateria_ would actually be a noun meaning "old human lizard."

You can draw your own conclusions from there, I think.

I've never heard of it and I doubt very much that it is real. It is certainly no replacement for homophobia.

It looks like he's trying to introduce a new word of his own hoping it gets accepted by the majority.

first of homo means the same not homosexual.
This word is not real. Look it up in any dictionary. The guy made it up because he probably is not into homosexuality. Don't believe what he says. Hope this was helpful!

It may be real to him, but to me it's still the best place to buy the most fashionable hats.
