I mean really, they have never played contact (i.e. "hitting") sports, do not understand the violence involved, sound uniformed and stupid, when trying to describe "what the team is feeling". I could go on, but this is the most PC move the networks have ever made. Tell you what, when they allow male reporters in female dressing rooms after the game/tennis match, and I mean when they are coming/going into the shower etc. I will accept women on the field and in the locker room.

It is PC, but its been going on since I was a kid.
Phillis George back in the late 70's, the gorgeous Jayne Kennedy.
I think they put ladies in for sex appeal and better ratings. The PC movement was not as overwhelming back them.
The PC movement has a little to do with it, they want hot babes and most of them are.
Of course not all of them are babes. But they willl be serious when they have a female announcer up in the booth. The female sideline reporters are the waitresses, and the annoucers are the bosses.

Women are not announcers. They are field reporters. You do not not see women in the booth announcing or as color commentators. They are just there to be PC. Some of the men who do sound uninformed, stupid, over state the obvious or suck up.
I would like to see a women in the booth but she would have to be a die hard fan to be consider for the job unlike some men.
Read Howard Cosell's book "I never played the game."
Some of the ex player have little or no in sight about the game.
The announcers are just reports there are some that really do there homework and understand the game. Look at Rush Limbaug. He makes a statement about Mc Nabb but does not give any fact to support his claims.
They believe that covering a football game is like cover any other new event.

Their does seem to be a proliferation of more female reporters on the sideline. Most of them obviously do not have the knowledge , I mean what maybe 1 in 10 women watch sports like we do. They are their for the obvious sex appeal. I mean you never see an ugly girl on the sidelines reporting. Like anything else sex sells even in sports. This is the truth and I don't mean to offend any of you ladies but it is what it is. To further demonstrate what I mean , Look at your local news, national news, all the women are pretty much good looking, Is rare to see one that isn't.

In response to many of the answers, there are women color commentators, watch espn2 at noon on saturdays, there is one announcing every weekend. She sucks, it tottally takes away from the game, we do not need anymore of that. And also, yes most of the announcers are ex players, or atleast involved in the game somehow(coaching, managing, etc.).

As a woman who knows as much or more about sports than men, football as a spectator sport does not require one to have first hand expericnce, considering that many of the male commentators are simply broadcast journalism majors who made it big and never picked up a football in their life.

How many of the guy commentators have actually played hard hitting professional football; just because one hasn't played doesn't detract from their knowledge of the game and the insight they can bring. Additionally, a lot of women are watching sports now and it's good marketing to have commentators in their demographic.

Pretty weird question. So given your line of reasoning, why are there male gynecologists? Men don't give birth so clearly they shouldn't be delivering babies.
