it seems to have gotten dirty, maybe from oil, so now my wireless optical mouse is having problems. I replace the battery.....still seems to have difficulty.
Any way to clean this slightly porous mouse pad ?

just go buy a new mouse pad, you can get them for very cheap, talking just a few bucks. if you mouse is still screwing up with a new mouse pad then it's time for a new mouse, which may actually cost you a bit more than a few bucks. but if your mouse is the problem, just cough up the money and buy a new one, it's not worth the hassle to try and fix what will only cost you about $20

With a wireless optical mouse you do not need a mouse pad....any hard surface is much better than a mouse pad......

first borrow someones pad that appears clean. if you still have problems with your mouse, then it is not the pad. if your mouse works on their pad voila!, pads are very inexpensive. my wireless optical mouse does not work without a pad

...or just get a new mouse pad. They don't cost a lot.
