It's divided politically because the Republicans can't get their frickin heads out of the sand and realize that we have a major problem on our hands. All they care about is big business and war. Taking action on global warming would hurt big business, so they choose to live in a fantasy land and pretend it doesn't exist. It might benefit them to know that if they don't do anything, there will be no more business, because our civilization will essentially collapse. For those who think there is still a debate over global warming, the reality is that there is not. The debate is over in the scientific community. Ask ANY reliable scientist, and they will tell you that global warming exists, and it is caused by the greenhouse gases that we are putting into the atmosphere. It is horrible that the Republicans are making this into a political issue. We all live on this Earth together, and it's ours to lose if we fail to act. Please do everything you can to stop global warming. The future of the human race is at hand.

Because Global Warming has not been conclusively proven making it open for debate.
My senior year in HS, we were told on the 1st Earth Day (1971) that we were facing another ICE AGE in 30 years. That didn't happen. Now we are going to die from global warming....
Scientists on both sides of the ICE AGE claim and the GW claim have failed to prove their position...hence debate. Why politically, this is America...everything is politics.

it is because the rich people benefit from the stuff that cause polllution so they have a reason to deny it. they will also be the last class affected. it is the poor that gets hurt first and most by global warming. the rich can afford to move to a better place and have all the tech luxury and stuff to protect them from the effects of global warming.
also so many right wing christian born-again types think the end is near so are not worried about the planet or the future. they are also republicans so it is part of the republican platform to deny global warming because they actually WANT the world to end.
Typical liberal just wants to drink clean water and breath clean air and want their grandkids to do so also.( selfish bas-tards) They do not care about profits for big corporations.
PS dinosuars died because of global freezing, not warming.
Lots of things that are natural are also bad, does that mean we should not try to stop it. if it is natural for the earth to get so warm we all die, it is STILL a problem we have to work on. death is death. Whatever we can do we should do.

If I understand the Kyoto agreement correctly, it required developed nations to close power plants, industries, and companies that produce emissions by a certain percentage. Which still could be OK...tough but we could do it. What caused the problem was that it wasn't fair across the board. USA, UK, and other developed countries would have to close facilities BUT other countries would still be allowed to expand polluting infrastructure...specifically China, India, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia and just about every African nation. So the net effect is no change except to impoverish the developed nations. Congress took a look at the treaty and said not just 'no' but 'hell no!'

several issues, first there is no proof that man is causing it, it may be a natural cycle of the planet.
You remember the ice age and the melting of the ice age.
And if you beleive in evolution, you beleive the earth did a complete change of its atmosphere over time.
So why is this not jsut part of that process.
Next assuming that China, Korea, Middle East don't do anything differnt is there anything that can really be done.
Esp if there is no use of atomic power instead of coal or natural gas.
Next if we stoped using alot of the fuels, that does not stop wild fires and other things that actually cause more harmful gases to be released ( herds of cows)
So making all of the needed changes would make America not able to compete with any other nations economy.
There has to be a balance, which is not accepted to the liberals.

Read the novel State of Fear by Michael Crichton. It is a fantastic book that shows how environmental data is used (and abused) for political gain. Of course the book is fiction, but what an eye opener!

Because environmental groups give money to the Democrats and the oil companies give money to the Republicans.

Most Republicans (at least the politicians) don't think it's a real problem. I didn't either, until I started looking at the research and facts surrounding it.

It is because there are money interests involved. The huge oil and auto industries do not want restrictions on their business activities. They are biased in favor of their money. The rest of us are biased in favor of planet earth.

the left use global warming as a weapon to push there liberal agenda. The warming of the earth is a natural thing that happens, remember seeing any dinosaurs lately. And when they were dinosaurs I don't think they had cars.
