I believe that ignorance is the culprit on both sides of this conundrum.

The only way that disadvantaged people can take matters into their own hands and break out of the social and cultural noose which stifles them is to eliminate ignorance via formal education.

With hard work, sacrifice and complete dedication to obtaining an education, minorities can break away from these prejudices.
