My Boyfriend's parents best friend passed away, do I get them a card?

I got a card that says "with simpathy to you and your family" How do I address the card, and what else do I say inside?

you can address the card"to the family of",,,,,,and for adding more inside besides your name......put" loosing a loved one is always very hard,i hope you draw on your memories for comfort",,then sign your name......
