A VALENTINE
For her this rhyme is penned, whose luminous eyes,
Brightly expressive as the twins of Laeda,
Shall find her own sweet name, that, nestling lies
Upon the page, enwrapped from every reader.
Search narrowly the lines! -- they hold a treasure
Divine -- a talisman -- an amulet
That must be worn at heart. Search well the measure --
The words -- the syllables! Do not forget
The trivialest point, or you may lose your labor!
And yet there is in this no Gordian knot
Which one might not undo without a sabre,
If one could merely comprehend the plot.
Enwritten upon the leaf where now are peering
Eyes scintillating soul, there lie perdus
Three eloquent words oft uttered in the hearing
Of poets, by poets -- as the name is a poet's, too.
Its letters, although naturally lying
Like the knight Pinto -- Mendez Ferdinando --
Still form a synonym for Truth -- Cease trying!
You will not read the riddle, though you do the best you can do.

You should take the poem VERY slowly and read it line by line. After each line think to yourself, what is the poet saying??

A VALENTINE (Okay it's a love note)
For her this rhyme is penned, whose luminous eyes,
(He's writing to a female, who has gorgeous eyes)

Brightly expressive as the twins of Laeda,
(Her eyes are bright, and then he uses a metaphor to compare their beauty to "the twins of Laeda"--a reference to Greek mythology)

Shall find her own sweet name, that, nestling, lies
(Okay, the person who he's writing to will find their name laying...where????)

Upon the page, enwrapped from every reader..

(She'll find it on the page--i.e. IN THE POEM...and it's hidden)

Okay, so this guy loves a female and has hidden the name in the poem)

Search narrowly the lines!--they hold a treasure
(You must search closely to find the hidden name)

Divine--a talisman--an amulet

That must be worn at heart. Search well the measure --

The words--the syllables! Do not forget

(LOOK REALLY HARD AND FIND THE HIDDEN NAME)

I'll reveal it for you...

If you read the first seven lines...the author has hidden a name.

"F" in "For" in the first line.
"R" in "Brightly"
"A" in "Shall"
"N" in "Upon"
"C" in "Search"
"E" in "Divine"

This poem is a love poem about France...now keep it going and find her name.

Regards,

Mysstere.

Let me smoke a joint and I'll get back to ya. Bunch of senseless drivel, like most poetry.

This is not help, it is CHEATING. Do your own work. Hint: what do you think the poem is about? Does it have a message--if so what is it?
