When nurses wore their crisp white uniforms, nurses cap and pin they got a lot more respect than they do now. I think most people realize nurses are highly trained, but sInce everyone in the hospital wears the "cute" scrubs with cartoon pictures, the patients can't tell the nurses from the cleaning crew.

no generally not, nurses need a college degree of some sort so while it is a service profession it is a skilled service profession. The only aspect of nursing that may be considered a low skilled job is Certified Nurses aide. Even though they are required to complete a training course, a lot of people consider this type of job low skilled. (Its not though)

I don't know about other people, but I personally don't think it's low skilled at all. I think it is a great job, that you help other people to get better. My mother was a dental nurse, my grand mother was a nurse in a hospital and schools, and her sister was a nurse too. I respect them for what they have done while they were working. They had to study a lot, and train a lot, so they could help patients.

I am not unskilled but I am low paid. The alternative? Is to not work. I would rather work than sit at home. Other jobs similar to mine in the part of the country where I live are of a similar salary to me but for the job I actually do I am low paid. As long as inflation goes up and the cost of living goes up and my salary doesn't go up then of course I am low paid. When I asked for a salary increase I was told to be 'thankful I had a job' maybe they have a point?

Nursing is and has always been considered a skilled ,professional occupation. There are a lot less nurses now because of low pay long hours and a lack of funding for scholarships

Some may, but it certainly isn't and if anyone tried it they would
soon know better. Because Nurses often work long hours some
view it as low skilled. However some Physicians work long hours
and they aren't viewed that way.

I don't. I know that in Ontario, it currently takes 4 years of a collaborative College/ University program to be a nurse. After graduation, they must write an exam before getting hired.

Definately NOT.
Firstly it is a very noble profession.
It requires great skill and dedication.
It is the Nurse who ultimately cares for the patient, administers drugs and medication and in direct contact with him.
