Oh this is going to be a long one...
First Mary Kay is a premier cosmetics line, meaning it is rated above half of the deaprtment lines. It is in fact rated above MAC and Clinique. It also has many ingrediates that can only be found in Mary Kay. There is a night solution from Mary Kay that has peptides in it (ask if you need a definition) these peptides are similar to the ones found in the best department store line, but better. Because Mary Kay is the number one selling cosmetic line they have a higher demand and are actually able to buy from the same French company, but because they buy in such quantities they get a special and better formula.
Better, the prices of Mary Kay are lower because they do not pay the department store overhead. It is a home based business. Because of this, consultants are also able to make a higher commision than any other home based cosmetics line.
Some people try one item from Mary Kay and find it is not for them, and I am sooooo sorry that they didn't have a better consultant that afforded them the opportunity to try other products and to make recommendations fitting their skin needs. The consultant should have let them sample the product, and any product, and in the event they made a purchase that they were unhappy about, should have taken it back and honored the 100% guarentee. There is in fact something for everyone within the Mary Kay line. There are the staple moisturizers and cleansers but there are also specific ones for specific needs that your consultant can tell you more about. There are actually 7 types on fountation in all different shades and so there is something depending on your skin type and your preference.
The color make-up is also great. It isn't advertised as much because Mary Kay is so proud of it's skin care, however they are also premeir products. The colors have a lot of pigment in them and so they go on smooth and long-lasting. It doesn't take 15 dips into the pot to get some color on your face. People I know, including myself, swear by their lipstick, too.
If you want more advise on the colors or what works for you, please check out my website and my number is even on there and you can feel free to call me.

Mary Kay is awesome for your skin! The company has used the formula for over 40 years with some very awesome results- but they have updated it for today's changing woman.
I know two or three people that are now my Directors that had terrible acne- they would not even leave their houses! one in particular told me that she went to the dermatologist, and the doctor told her that Mary Kay was the best thing she could use for her skin. She started that day and hasn't stopped for 13 years. True story.
The skin care itself (3-in-1 cleanser, moisturizer) come in normal and oil/combination skin. You need to really pick the right set for your skin type. If you are younger (teens) you may want to try to Velocity set instead of the Time Wise Set.
The microdermabrasion is awesome and is way cheaper than department stores and WAY cheaper than the dermatologist. It's about a 400 or 500 hundred dollar procedure for less than $50- and you can reuse it. Highly recommended.
Also, there are many different foundations you can use. Medium coverage, full coverage, creme to powder, there are different choices depending on whether you might want a more opague powder look or a more natural look.
The makeup itself is fine also for skin. Although it doesn't have products in it like the skincare line has that improves your skin constantly- it does not have anything that will hurt your skin. I have customers that use campho phenique , clinique, hypo-allegeric types of makeup and proactiv - and the Mary Kay makeup does not harm their skin or make them break out.
As with any makeup line though- you want to use as much of the line together as possible. If you use a MK cleanser, a clinique moisturizer, Estee Lauder foundation, etc- you're going to have serious problems.
I will send you samples (FREE) of any mary kay product you want to try. We believe in letting ladies try out the products before they buy, unlike somewhere else where you have to order online or in the store and are stuck with it.
Additionally, if you like what you get- I'll give you anything you want at 20% off, because I love Yahoo Answers and I appreciate the cool people I meet here. Same goes for anyone who reads this.

No the make up is crap that's why it's been in business for so long.
I personally prefer Mac makeup - they have the best selection of colors, and the girls there are wonderful, they help you pick the colors that look best on you, and color match your skin tone/foundation to a tee.
I haven't heard anything bad about Mary Kay, but the ladies that sell it don't know much about color i find. I trust Mac. They are make up artists.

I didn't care for Mary Kay skin care or makeup products when I tried them. The skin care was very bad for my skin, really broke out from it.
I have heard of other people who loved it though.
I like L'oreal makeup, Neutrogena. I used to use "better" stuff but found that drug store brands are OK too.

Mary Kay is good for most people. some have a sensitivity to to the skin care, but I think you find that with any cosmetic. I really love the makeup, especially the eye shadow colors and the lipgloss.

I personally think Mary Kay is a mediocre line, at best. They are still using parabens, known endocrine disruptors, in their products. I personally look for skin care products that are not only good for my skin, but good for my body.
