well i have heard that if it is cold out and you open a window for a bit the cold air will kill them off. it is important to remember to wash any fruits or vegitables that you dont put in the refridgerator. it is common for them to hatch from eggs on any fruits or vegitables that you dont wash. if you just wait for a few days they will just die off.

I would make sure that you don't have a water leak anywhere, especially since you mentioned your kitchen and bathroom. Gnats will live in wet wood! In fact, they will thrive there. If you have a dishwasher, make sure it is not leaking. I had that happen, and ended up having to rip up the floor and replace the subfloor back to where I found dry wood. It had evidently been leaking for quite some time, and gnats were everywhere under the counter.

Hope this is not the case, but it won't hurt to check and eliminate this possibility.

Go to Home Depot, I think it is Hot SHot who makes a yellow, hanging thing that youplace anywhere and I tell you, in two days *all* my gnats were absolutely gone. It costs about $5 or so, AND IT IS NOT THAT HIDEOUS, STICKY STRIP THAT TAKES FOREVER TO ATTRACT FLYING CRITTERS.

This one looks like a fragrance thing you could hang in your closet.

I would look outside your house for any openings and patch them up. I had tons of baccelda bugs and lady bugs in my room. We found where they were getting in and patched it up and now there hasnt been any since!
