He didn't want to be captured alive by the Soviets and paraded around as a prisoner, and probably tortured before they killed him. He also could not stand to have his actions judged, or deal with the realization that he had failed to accomplish his master plan.

It was his final defiance. If he was dead, he could not be put through a trial for war crimes by people that he thought were inferior. He managed to escape having to answer to any authority for his actions by doing so. Essentially he was responsible for millions of deaths and left the survivors without any sense of completion, no closure, no justice. Cowardly or not...he went unpunished for his crimes....leaving a big empty feeling...

Well, he obviously committed suicide when his headquater in Berlin was taken by the Allies. So, apart from him being absolutely wacko, sick, crazy, mentally disturbed ... I guess it was just realizing he lost the war and he wouldn't probably get out of there without losing his pride (among other things).

Hitler after all was a man.
All men have to die one day - yes or no?

The historic view is that he proved to be coward enough to commit suicide rather than face defeat.

reasons....He commited suicide while hiding in a bunker in Berlin
while the invading Soviets were only 6 blocks away. He lost,
and he knew it.

He became a coward when the tables were turned, just like Saddham Hussein when he was found in his fox hole.

realization. he finally realized that all he had done was extremely wrong. and he couldnt take it anymore after his realization and decided to take his own life. just like Oedipus, who ended up gouging his eyes out. Ironically, he was already "blind" before he gouged his eyes out.
