neways i have two rats maself and i clean there tails wit a VERY SOFT toothbrush like the ones for toddlers..do it very softly and stroke DOWNN and use regualur moisturizing soup pet soap is fyne NOT BABY SOAP !...use soap for ferrets or small animals....after use a cloth to wipe it off and soothe them....sumtymz it LOOKS dirty but really it isnt its jus the colour of there tail...good luck

Um . . . soap and water? If the pet rat will hold still, give him a bath in the kitchen sink with warm water and a little baby or pet shampoo. A pet rat can't be as bad as a cat to bathe.

soap and wash cloth...some rat's tails just look dirty no matter what you do......
