really need to draw this one out for you
write it out with the 0.5 under the division sign and the 5 to the left; put a decimal point above the division line right over the decimal point in the 0.5. how many time does 5 go into 5? 1 right? so put 1 right above the 5, just to the right of the decimal point. and just treat the right side of the decimal point like you do the left side. check your answer.. .1*5=? (one tenth of five is what?) i hope this helps, i was just trying to explain the pencil to paper mechanics.
