Noobdy would reach that point where personal appearance becomes unimportant unless he/she is completely depressed , it is not a sign of having grown up or being mature but it is a sign of depression because personal appearance is very important at any age.

No and it will always be important to me, it reflects who you are inside and how you feel inside about yourself, by the way. I never went to the extreme like nitpicking because of a hair. It is too bad people go to either extreme. I took the middle road.

My personal appearance isn't unimportant by any means but I do remember taking obscene amounts of time to get ready for a date. I watch my daughter and her friend and they spend incredible amounts of time just to go out and be around boys...its pretty silly.
I guess I'm just past that. If you can't dig me the way I look when I'm on my out the door to work...I don't need you in my life.

Yes, I remember those days. My appearance hasn't grown unimportant, it just doesn't take up as much time worrying about how I look. Also, my eyesight is going, so I don't see the finer points any more.

Not unimportant, just not as important. I still care about how I look and have insecurities like most people but I am way past the point of obsessing over it. (I'm 37)

I am not AS picky as I was at 17 but I do care about how I look but not to the point some other's may. I can leave the house without make up now..LOL...

Does that ever occur? As old as I am, I still want to be clean and neat. I still wear clean clothes and don't think I'll ever stop wanting to be clean or wearing clean clothes. Does there come a time in one's life that we actually stop caring? I say this as if our state of mind is without any mental health disorder.

Depends on the situation. Sometimes it's good to look unkempt. Wow, I forgot that was a word. Look wild, un inhibited. Like when you first wake up in the morning.
