Wire tapping illegal...if you just happen to catch a conversation that was not planned or staged.....ok.

Yes, it is. When anyone other than law enforcement tapes conversations, the person on the other end must be told. Even law enforcement needs a court order to do so.

Depends on the state. Some states are "one party" states where at least one person on the phome has to be aware the conversation is being recorded.

Some states are "two party" states where it is illegal to tape unless you have both parties permission.

As long as you are recording your own conversation or have the expressed permisssion of at least one party of the conversation. the trouble is when you record the conversations of two strangers without permisssion.
