I was induced with both of my children, it was not too bad. I had an epidural with my children, it really eased a lot of the pain, and made having my kids more comfortable.

Ok well...I was due October 26....on October 2 I was2-3 centimeters dilated and a week or so later I was 4. Finally my water broke on the 16th. When I hadn't gone into full labor by 8 am on the 17th they induced me with pitocin...and yes pitocin is TERRIBLE! If it wasn't for that I would've done it naturally. They gave me an epidural when I was 7 centimeters and within 1/2 an hour I was pushing...45 min later she was out. Easiest thing I have ever done. You should be fine. Keep your head up. Good luck and trust me no matter what when you see your baby you forget everything. I had her 2 weeks ago tomorrow and I don't even remember it being that bad, even though my husband says I was saying differently at the time. Oh and the epidural is HEAVEN! It makes it a breeze!!!!!

When your water breaks (mine did a trickle), and I was around 3cm dilated, once I went to the hospital, they examined me, found out it was my water that broke, I was able to get an epidural right away. Pitocin does make you have really hard contractions- they had to give it to me to try to speed it along. But with the epidural, don't worry-I was giggling and laughing with my Dad when I had the epidural! Now the only thing you should worry about- which doesn't happen that often at all, is what happened to me- my labor was 19hrs and ended in a c-section (I had a 9lb 10oz baby that just wasn't descending down), but, the last 4 hrs of the labor I went through, my epidural wore off entirely. I was almost fully dilated as well. SO it was extremely painful- cried so hard it hurt so bad. But, as long as the epidural is good, you should be okay. And, you never know- my water broke at 1:30am and I was supposed to be induced at 9:30am that same day!!!!

Goodluck, don't worry-they will take good care of you and your baby. And trust me, all my pain was SO worth it, because my son brings me so much joy, love and happiness!

I was induced. Really, the schedule was better. You could calmly go to the hospital, the families knew when to be there, etc.

I was a week late, the doctor induced because I started losing alot of weight. I didn't dilate at all either. I went in the hospital on Wed. morning at 12:00am (scheduled). Still with inducement meds I was only 3 cm at 2:30 in the afternoon. You have to be 3cm to get the epidural. I must admit until 3cm the contractions did hurt. The epidural didn't hurt at all and after that the contractions could barely be felt. I was in labor a while but I didn't feel them really. I pushed 3 counts of ten and he was out. He was born at 11:00pm.

You will amaze yourself with your strength and endurance. It can't really be explained until you experience it.

i don't know why the docs change so much every few years. but.... i believe that it is better for you to go into labour yourself.
my daughter was induced and she suffered a lot of extra [pain because of it. some times the hospitals in the area and the docs want to control the schedule also .so they unfortunately have their on reasons to induce besides your well-being. i had my first baby without any meds or epidural and my second with a epidural. i dont remember haw much you have to be dialated but do tell the doc over and over that you want the epidural and any meds he willgive. also remember different docs will help you more in this area than others.some dicourage the use of meds while others give you all you need ask! and ask in plenty of time before you go into labour.my daughter would not have even gotten any if i hadnt been ther to stand up for her! also as soon as you get in the hospital keep telling them you expect meds. they can put it off till its too late! towards the end they wont give you anything. its even better to change docs than to go in without the meds.

Tell you doctor to get stuffed.

Seriously the earliest he should induce is you due date + 7 days. And in most of the rest of the (sane) world they don't induce until your due date + 14 days.

Due dates are an estimate based on an average, not carved in stone. There are definitly only accurate one week either way.

Also you can go from 0 to delivery in as little as 6 hours. If this is your first it is likely you won't dialate until you go into labour.

Can you find a new doctor???

I, personally, would not consent to being induced unless the baby was showing signs of distress of the baby was over 3 weeks late.

Just relax your baby will come soon when he or she is ready if you want to try a few things that may move it along and help labor begin they say to walk have sex and some say eat spicy foods I don't know how true that one is but it may work. You could have your baby anytime now and the doctors usually let you go over 2 weeks before they induce you. I guess there must be other reasons for you to be induced. I wish you and your baby the best of luck. It will all be over soon enough and all the pain is worth that is what people tell me. I am going on 37 weeks and it is my first baby take care.

lol..well if you just read my question..I havent done anything either. However, my doc. wouldnt induce me until at least a week over my due date. I understand wanting to go into labor by yourself..trust me I want to as well. I have walked all I can and had sex..I dont want to do anything other than that but you just have to try. I am also having an epidural and my doc. told me today he would let me have one when I got around 4-5 cm. I hope that everything works out for you!

firstly dont be worried the dr knows what he's doing...
i was induced with my son he was 2 weeks overdue and it went really well he was out in 7 hours. i was already 4cm dilated but i still needed to have my waters broken, and i needed pitocin, it never hurt at all i had epidural for the pain but other than that everything went fine dont worry..
even if you are not dilated or your baby is not engaged yu can still go into labour it just might be a little longer than you expect thats all...

Is there any reason your doctor wants to induce you on your due date? If theres no reason i would be asking the doctor why they want to induce usually they wait at least a week before they induce you. My first child was induced 2 weeks after my due dates and I would not recommend being induced if it is not necessary as soon as they put the drip in I was in pain I was lucky I had her in 2 hours. I went to another ob for my second child (because we moved) and he let me go three weeks over and I had a natural birth it took longer(6 hours) but I wasn't in as much pain.
