I am 12, I play floor hockey, I got pretty good stick handeling and got a good knowledge of the game. I want to shift to ice hockey but don't really know how to skate. Do you think that I should learn or is it too late?

i started playing when i was 12 as well, however i became a goalie so skating was a little less needed during play. I barely knew how to stop when i played my first ice hockey game but my determination kept me going. The next year i moved up to the next level and still didnt know how to stop that well. By my third year in AAA i was one of the fastest skaters and i could stop on a dime. The point to this, the only way you will learn is to strap the skates on and give it a shot Atleast you are starting with some skills already. You may just deke the crap out of everyone..

It's never too late, get out there. Just remember hockey is all about skating, if you can't skate you can't play. Learn to skate first, before you ever suit up to play hockey. Get books and videos from the library and practice what you read on the ice. Get as much ice time as you can. The best puck handler in the world means nothing if he can't skate.

If you want to play, go learn to skate and play. It is never too late to do something you want to do. I started playing ice hockey at age 28. I suck at it but it is a ton of fun (and the most difficult sport to play and I've played all 4 big ones).

No its never too late. like you i played floor hockey i played alot. i was really good at floor hockey but i couldnt skate. floor hockey is fun but it isnt real hockey. so i bought a second hand pair of skates and went to an outdoor rink at night by myself and just skated. At first i was terrible slowly i got my balance and had enough confindence to play during the day with the kids around the neighbourhood. then i was drafted by pittsburgh. the end by Sidney Crosby

12 is a great age to learn. I think you should know that skating with hockey skates is very much different than in-line roller skates. But there are great advantages that you will discover-possibly without realizing it.

NOTE: KS5957 has a great suggestion that worked for me when I was 13. I used to run around on sneakers to "get my legs" before I laced up.

its never to late get some skates and practice, practice, practice. never give up this is the best game in the world and some NHLers didn't start playing hockey till they were 12 years old so just get skates and practice and have fun doing it. and remember keep your stick on the ice.

Not too late.
The best way to start learning how to skate is to not wear skates. Go on a rink with tennis shoes on, learn how to glide, then try skates.
