People of the Culture of Rastafari believe that Haile Selassie I holds the authority of God on the Earth. These are some of the reasons:
because in accordance with Biblical prophesy He was crowned King of King and Lord of Lords the conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, at which time every nation on the earth had to bow to him and recognize his throne as Supreme including the Vatican.
The throne that he sat on is the throne of David and when he was crowned he was crowned as King of Israel. The Bible states that His throne shall have dominion as long as the sun and moon endure. Whoever sits on this throne holds dominion over all the earth.
Rastafarians believe that God lives in the flesh of all righteous people. Man of right is God in flesh and a woman of right is a Goddess. Whoever does the works of God is God. Whoever does the works of Satan is Satan.
It is a very simple but misunderstood culture which identifies with ancient African ways of worshipping God. Ancient Africans never believed in a spirit God who lives in the sky but always worshipped God through their Kings and Emperors.
When Haile Selassie I visited Jamaica he gave a medal of the Holy Trinity to Prince Emmanuel Charles Edwards, who is a Rastafarian leader, at which time he had a private discussion with him lasting two hours. Why would he do this if he disagreed so much with what the Rastas believe?

Bible is the best answer for that question, remember those who have eyes will see and those who have ears will hear. What is still been hidden to the wise and prudent will only always be revealed by to the babes and sucklings. Christ said it long time ago that children of the wicked people want miracle which will they never ever see, all those who always ask Haile Selassie about what people say about HIM don't believe in HIM, so why should He tell them that is HIM God and King of creation, still they were not gonna believe, they were going to demand for miracle. Is only Haile Selassie I and Rastafarians who know their relationship to each other!!!

Rastafarians don t think Haile Selassie was God but he was god in the body of Haile Selassie....When the king himself first came to Jamaica and walked off the plain it started raining and Jamaica was in a drought for a long time...by the way Haile Selassie was the 1st king/president to walk in the white house...he is god in some eyes

very interesting question. I don't know if this is the right answer, BUT I may be on to it. Selassie used to call himself THE LION OF JUDAH as he said his linneage was from the love affair between King Solomon of Israel and the Queen of Sheba which was, of course, Eitheopia. So perhaps that was why he was thought to be God incarnate.

Don't be dissing Selassie he was a good man that stood up for Rastafarian's rights in Jamaica. They praise him for the good deeds that he did. They did not think he is God. Sort of like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Duma**!!!!!

Jesus actually said that He is God. You have to read the Bible. He said, "Verily i say to you that, before Abraham was, I AM." John 8:58
I AM is the name God called himself. That is why when he said that in the Bible, the Pharisees, leaders of the church, picked up stones to throw them at him.
He said, "if you have seen me, you have seen the Father." "I am in the Father and the Father is in me." John 14:9 " I and my Father are one" John 10:30
The whole book of John is dedicated to showing that Jesus verified his identity as God in the flesh.
When Thomas saw Jesus (Yeshua) after he was crucified, when he put his finger in the wound on his side, he said, "My lord, and my God"
In regards to signs and the Rastas, they are wrong. In the Torah, it says that the coming savior will, Heal the sick, bring sight to the blind, and bring the dead back to life. Has Selassie done this? If not, he could not be Mashiach, as prophecy proclaimed.
