All people have different ways of studying, interactive, visual, audio, etc (list goes on for hours). What you need to do is to find out what way you like to study or whatever works for you (everyone is different... blah blah), and do that as much as you can. You will be studying in some form or fashion throughout your life, and now more than ever can give you a great oppurtunity to figure it out. Also, when you are ready to study, go in thinking optimistic because the first step is to believe in yourself and if you don't do that then you won't succeed. Good Luck, I hope my information helped.

You need to relax. You are studying too hard. Take it slow and try to make as many personal connections to what you are learning and write that down. Keep a journal of these connections. (While learning about the thirteen colonies make up an acronym that is special to you. While studying a novel, really concentrate on things make you question the author, get you excited.) I can't guarantee it will work, but it sounds like you have severe test anxiety. The best way to work through this is to study longer- days or weeks in advance. I have been a study buddy for several classmates that have had test anxiety. I have practiced with them for weeks, prior to a big exam, even when I didn't need it.

well my suggestions (remember that I don't really know your current study methods except to study hard) are:
Make sure you take clear and concise. If the teacher takes the time to wright it on the board, it's probably important. Date them and keep them organized in chronological order and separated by subject. Review them as soon as possible after class. This will help with making the memory stick while the information is fresh.
Find someone in the class who does consistently well and ask them if they wouldn't mind helping you. Maybe you could check your notes against theirs, have them explain incorrect answers on quizzes and tests. Ask them if they could clarify points in the lectures or strategies for solving homework problems. Basically, make this person your study buddy.
Study in advance. Many people think that a week before the test is enough time to start studying. However, if you're not a good test-taker anxiety can kick in even while you're studying, preventing you from really absorbing the material. For you, it might be better to study short intervals (15-20 minutes) Monday through Friday, or whatever days work for you. As you get closer, you're not memorizing or learning, you're just reviewing.
Since you said you already have tutors, let me add, don't be afraid to ask the teacher for help. That's why they're there. And there is nothing they enjoy more than a student showing interest in succeeding in their class. Most will take the time to clarify as well as give you supplemental work such as extra problems to work out and then check it for you to assess your accuracy.
Lastly, don't stress so much. The more you stress, the more your body rejects the pressure. Maybe you could try a mind clearing exercise (listening to music, going for a run, taking a bath) before you study. Oh, and as soon as you receive your test paper, flip it over and jot down everything you can remember (formulas, mnemonics, rules, etc.) if you're worried you might forget it.
Best of luck with your studies!

Exercise and eat healthy.
Find a good place to study.
Establish a routine study time.
Take scheduled breaks while studying.
Prepare a list of questions to ask the teacher as you read.
Use a highlighter.
Go to bed early the night before an exam.
Arrive as early as you can on exam day before the exam starts to allow you time to relax and get your mind prepared for the challenge ahead.
Quickly review the entire test before you answer any questions.
Remember to breathe.
Smile.

This is a link for Sylvan learning centers. I think you need to look at the way your mind/brain take in information. The 2 subjects you do ok in, Math and English, they are not really memorizing things. They are just learning thought patterns, learning ways to think, to organize and process information but not memorizing facts. Your brain learns one way just fine, you just need to be trained to learn a new way. I had to struggle with something like this; I have Asperger's Syndrome.
The answer that you need to study harder only means that no one who is trying to help you understands the real problem. I've never dealt with Sylvan, but I think they focus on the way that you learn, which is what I think your problem is. I wish I had more information to help you. I'll bet you have trouble memorizing a list of things, yes? If your parents can't afford better tutoring, I will help you as much as I can through email. Feel free to email me for more help or if you can, contact Sylvan and talk to them. Good luck and hang in there.
PS It was difficult, but I learned to understand the way I learn AND the way others learn and now I can learn both ways and I usually learn things very quickly and I do quite well at work now but it took years and years on my own. With tutoring that focuses on your learning process, I hope you can avoid that. You are NOT stupid if you can do ok at English and Math. Most people have a LOT of trouble with these 2 subjects, because they don't learn the way you do. You just learn differently than most and once you understand that AND the way that most people learn, you will probably learn faster and better than most people.
It may be that your brain needs to understand a system for something instead of just putting together bits and peices. Most people learn by just learning little bits and pieces of things and they never understand the underlying patterns in things. By being able to learn English and Math, you can learn the patterns of thought that govern speech and the patterns/systems of the natural order of the universe (mathmatics models/describes the universe and the world we live in...) Most people learn by just learning the very simple process by which a few sample problems are solved and then just best guess which process to apply to a situation but their minds don't think of the underlying patterns or systems. I hope you get the help you need somewhere. Good luck, kid.
Ok, I just read your 3 answers and you sound smart as heck. I think you are very smart and just don't think or learn the way most other people do. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you are stupid. Your answers indicate that your mind is very deeply analytical, which would further suggest the possibility of the situation I wrote about above.

its true to what they say that you must study harder. We do fail sometimes but keep in mind that we must strive harder to achieve our goals. Same thing with studies. Im a college student and personally, im not really good in studying but then i strive so hard to the point that i stay up late or sometimes i never sleep because of studying and in the end the you will get the fruit of your labor. so hang in there ok..you'll do well

Study by listening to the teacher and taking notes. Most teachers don't even remember what is in the textbook, so they teach what they know and not what the textbook says. The essay exams refer to what the TEACHER says, not what the textbook says.
LISTEN TO THE TEACHER AND REGURGITATE WHAT HE SAYS ON YOUR ESSAY QUESTIONS.
Math tends to be hard core memorization of FACTS. You do good at that so you have " studying " down pat, IMHO.
The " Fuzzy " teachings depend on the teacher to pass, not any FACTS anymore. That is the Politically Correct way to teach.
That is the way of " education " nowadays. It sucketh mightly.
( but don't tell your teachers that, it will give you more trouble )
