Lots, and some of them are pretty amazing. As some of the other answerers have said, they make some western cars there now, but if you want to see some real, Chinese cars, try "Zonghua" or "Dzonghua" as a brand. I think they look pretty slick. I'd want one. There also used to be brands like Beijing, which were Mercedes-Benz derivatives, but they are old now. Well, and then there's the Santana and the derivative of the mid-80s Audi 100, whose Chinese name I don't remember now.

In Wuhan which is in Central China there is the Citron / Peugeot factory turning out around 300,000 cars per year. In other provinces there are BMW, Ford, Volkswagen etc.
If you do not have a factory in China then imported vehicles are subjected to punitive import taxes. So car companies are moving their factories to China but this comes at the expense of jobs in countries outside China. Who benefits, directors of the car company and the share holders, who looses, workers made redundant and the companies who depended upon car companies.

To make cars in China that are sold here the car company must build a plant in China. I don't know of any.

The one that will likely be sold in North America is called the CHERY, not the Cherry. Chevrolet tried to get the name changed because it was so close to Chevy, not it looks like GM
may make a marketting deal with them.
