What kind of careers would work with a foreign language degree? French to be exact?

I am having a hard time picking a major. I have a passion for foreign languages, and I particularly like French. I am thinking about majoring in French but I am not sure exactly what I could do with that kind of degree? Tranlation maybe? I don't know. I also want to know if anyone has any information on becoming a translator.

If you are passionate about foreign language, You may want o broaden your horizons a little bit more before deciding on your major, Consider Ethnic Studies and Politics. Unfortuantely with language degrees, especially French, there are not lot of lucritive options with a language degree alone. You could work in the airport as a translator, Courtroom translator or as a Police/Goverment (I.E Customs, etc). If you also partnered that with a degree in Politics/Ethnic Studies/Buisness, you could be well on your way to a career working as a Liason for the United States and foreign speaking Countries and quite possibly, depending on your drive and initiative, a position in the United Nations. You could also find yourself working for a major company in need of someone with a foreign language and buisness degree. There are alot of possibilites if you make the right choices and are truely passionate about what you do.

International contract translation is a good paying field. The more languages you know the more valuable you are. Of course you'll have to be fluent in the legal language of each country. You can always teach. In a major city you can direct the English as a second language program at most any elementary or secondary school.

You would have to get a graduate degree to get any kind of career at all. You could focus in business, law, public relations, or political science.
