At the school where I work, each student is assigned a locker, and each student is issued a lock from the school. They are not allowed to have their own locks on the lockers. Students are not allowed to carry backpacks to classes, so they must leave their bags in their lockers.

Because they can't carry bags to class, students want to stop at their lockers between every class rather than carry books for a few classes. I think they should just carry a few more books, because stopping all of the time makes them late for class.

Students should be allowed to access their lockers anytime. Especially in this day and age, when many students aren't allowed to carry backpacks into the classsroom. What if a student needs to take some medication? Or get a tampon? It's not the teacher's business, it's the student's personal business.

Locker time is often a social time as well. Especially for friends who don't have classes together and need to seek out their support system.

As a Sub for over 20 yrs, in multiple districts, I can tell you that some systems work, some don't. Too much time between classes causes problems, too little time causes students to forget things.
What does work is when the school punishes the trouble makers, without throwing a wet blanket over everyone. And regular visits by drug dogs and teachers walking around also works.

It should be restricted and up to the teacher's discretion. If students were allowed to freely access their lockers during class, think of the possibilities. Guns, drugs, students meeting other students to discuss and exchange answers. To risky of consequences for such a pointless luxury. Save the privelage for break times between classes.

I have taught in two different middle schools, one with lockers and without lockers. I wished the kids had them at my first school and now I which they didn't since they never remember to bring all their materials.

I always wanted lockers in high school but we weren't allowed to use them because they'd been vandalized in the past. I just kept my books in my car and switched one stack of books for another during breaks.

not exactly sure of the question, but from my understanding of what you're asking...

students should be allowed to go to their lockers between classes, but never during class. If they forget something ..... tough luck.
