If you like Fantasy mixed with Mystery (With a good amount of comedy thrown in too) I highly recommend anything by Terry Pratchett's "Diskworld" books. I am just finishing up "Thud!". It is about an officer in the city of Ankh-Morpork, who must avert a race war between dwarfs and trolls. It all goes back to a battle in the mythic Koom Valley... where the dwarfs ambushed the trolls.... or the trolls ambushed dwarfs.... No on knows for sure, but Commander Sam Vimes must find out!

It sounds a little trendy after The Notebook came out on movie, but Nicholas Sparks is an excellent author. I definitely recommend The Notebook, The Wedding and At First Sight. I really enjoyed these books.

Janet Evanovich has a good number series (One for the money;; two for the dough..) and they go up to 11 or 12, I forget. Anyways, It's a comical mystery. Very entertaining. I read one in a day, that's how funny they are. I don't usually like to read or just sit down and read a whole book, but I loved it and I think you'll enjoy it too.

Hope that helps!!

A River Sutra by Gita Mehta (good quick read)

"The loose collection of stories that comprises Gita Mehta's A River Sutra are connected by three things: the Narmada River, the theme of love, and the narrator's inability to understand the various tales of the human heart he hears. Mehta gives very little information about this narrator. The reader never knows his name, much less the secrets of his heart. It is through this nameless man that the reader learns the stories of uncommon pain and joy that the narrator has collected during his tenure as the manager of a government rest house..."

no! the place has been quite dry, i even found myself looking at my little sister's Lauren K Hamilton books (but being a guy, her always masculine 2tonne of f'able men just got in the way of an averagely passable read...

but since you've asked this question i think the coming weeks might have some hope of better reading quality than my little sister's library collection!!

I don't know what kind of books you like but personally my favourites are:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyers (I know it sounds corny but it is the story of a girl who falls in love with a vampire but read it, it will definately change your mind)

The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig (romantic Aww... :D)

The Gene is Isis by Traci Harding (the stories of 3 women in different time periods. It is a fantasy book I loved it)

I could list off heaps more but most of them are fantasy so I don't know if you even like that genre :P

I hope you like one of those though.

I highly recommend "Kafka On The Shore" By Haruki Murakami. I read it a couple months ago, and really liked it. It is a little strange, and isn't really a light read, but it is very good. Good luck!
