I like to help kids out with their homework, especially math, and I like to show details on how to solve it, not just give the answer. I wonder if I am wasting my time, though. So, kids, can you please tell me honestly, when you come here with your math questions, do you want just an answer or do you want to see how the problem is solved?

Looking for HONEST answers here -- thanks!

Well I once asked a math question in here
and to tell the truth all I wanted was the answer....It hurt me later on during a test so now I only sometimes ask for help on how to do a problem, Instead of having other people do it for me

OK well, I was resitting a calculus paper in the summer, and I was struggling with some of it. I looked on line and found some useful sites but I still wasn't reassured I had what I needed.
I posted a couple of questions in the Higher Ed category asking for people who could SHOW me how to find what I was looking for. Giving me an answer would have been of no help at all.
I got a few stupid answers but then two or three helpful people answered and wrote out the formula I wasn't grasping. That was of the utmost help and greatly appreciated, because then I was able to take the details away and analyse them and finally see where I had been going wrong.
Sensible kids, posing maths questions surely prefer to be shown how to do the problem because an answer, on its own, really isn't going to be much use in an exam.
