Will fake nails damage my natural nails? I bought some plastic nails at the store (they didn`t come with stickers) and so I plan to glue them on with "salon" quality glue. What will be the damage to my nails? PLEASE ANSWER!

There isn't so much damage when you use the drug store bought fake nails and super glue. Just keep in mind that the nails pop off, usually 1 or 2 a day- and it's really embarrasing to have all of your nails painted red and long except for one that is short and natural colored. I always carry around a bottle of super glue and extra pre-painted nails in my purse so that I can fix these nail emergencies quickly.

If you get acrylics from the local nail place- unless it is gel nails, they will damage your nails. They sand down your real nails and make a huge ridge when they put on the acrylic. This will not permanently damage your nails but it will take a good 2-3 months to grow your real nails back out.

Hope this helps-

YES, YES, YES!!! The ones that you buy in a package are much less damaging to your nails than the ones that you get done at a salon, but they do still cause some damage. To limit the effects, make sure you dissolve the nails off with an acetone polish remover rather than picking them off (that will rip off layers of your natural nail with it). NEVER go to a salon and get fake nails. They file down your natural nail so it is "tissue paper thin" and put pressure on the nail bed--a lot of them don't even use acrylic--they use dental bonding because it stays on so long!!! Natural nails are SO much better--the look better, too.

If you use one of those giant emery board looking nail files to gently (key word!!) rough up your nails first, the glue will adhere better. But be careful, the glue really works well. That's not a bad thing, but when you decide to take off your nails, go to Walmart and get acetone nail polish remover and soak the nails off instead of prying them off. I've worn them several times and made the prying mistake once. Since then, no problems.

I have been getting my nails done with acrylics for about 8 years. Yes, they damage the nails. But if you take the acrylics off and let the nails grow out, you will never you know you had them. But--during that time, your nails will be so weak that you will want to get the acrylics back on because of the sheer sight of the damaged nails growing back.

Look i am a nail tech and the key is not to let them use the DRILL many use them but they dont know how to use them. I use straight files and trust me it doesnt damage them whe they only remove the shine from your nails. Also make sure you soak in pure acetone and little by little take them off , dont rip them off. Gel nails you have to file them down though. I put and take off my nails very often but they still grow good , im lucky because i have good nails , if yours are not so strong just be carefull to where you go and who does your nails.

YES YES YES. Oh my gosh yes. Do not put fake nails on. They ruin your nail beds and can cause nail problems for the rest of your life.

It really depends on what kind of glue you are using because some glues don't let oxogen to your nails therefor killing them. other than that i think your nails are pretty safe
