I am 40 weeks pregnant and I am schedualed to be induced on Nov. 8th. I had an ultrasound today and he is 8lbs (which I know can be off some) and he has plenty of fluid. I have not progressed in almost two months....I am only 1cm and at my visit today the doc. said he would try and stir things up so he stuck his finger up there and pulled down on my cervix..in the part where I am 1cm. (sorry about graphic). God that hurt he said he was trying to stretch me. Well I have had a few contractions since then but no spotting no nothing..lol. frustrating. He said that he just wanted to go ahead and schedual me for a c-section because Im not progressing but I asked him if I can try first to have him naturally. So I go in at 1:00am on the 8th and he is going to give me a gel and a pill to take to see if it will help..and if it does then he can break my water to help. BUT he said the failure rate was high for people like me who are short and still not progressing. I have walked myself

to death this weekend and I have even lost 4lbs. and still nothing. Is there something I can do to help dilation? I dont mind waiting until the 8th because its my dad's bday and it will be cool, but I dont want to have a c-section..so I want to try and get myself to dilate. I have also had sex alot. Other than that any idea's? Has anyone else experienced this?

I dont have any diabetes or anything..I was wondering why he would resort to a c-section as well. Thats why I asked him if I could try natural first.

My friend just had a baby- they did the gel thing with her to induce her, and it worked wonders for her- they said they've never seen someone go into labor that fast before with that. So it could happen. Oh and she is short too- about 5'3"- I don't think height has anything to do with that. Now this could go any way for you- they gave me pitocin to speed it all up, however my baby just was't descending. (Being 9lbs 10oz didn't help) He was too big for me. Now if you aren't induced until Nov. 8th, your baby could be just as big as mine...but they might want to wait until then just to see if anything will happen on it's own. I was supposed to be induced on a Friday (one week overdue exactly) at 9:30am... but my water broke at 1:30am before they were going to induce me- I hear babies know these things lol.... anyways, my doctor really pushes for natural labor... I ended up 19hrs of labor-the last 4 hrs the epidural wore off, then a c-section (being put under for it) Yours could go either the same (hopefully minus the epidural wearing off!), or even better-maybe it will help just like my friend's did. Either way, I hope it all goes well for you. I know you might be afraid of it all, but they will take good care of you and your baby. I always try to tell everyone I had the worst of all labors lol. My son was also nose up instead of nose down (while being head down), so that was a big problem for me- if he weren't so big, I prob could have delivered him naturally that way.
I really hope the best for you- remember no matter what, you will have such a blessing and all the pain is worth it! Trust me on that one! And if you need any help or advice afterwards, just let me know! Especially if you have a c-section... some advice now- roll a hospital blanket up in a line, and use that to put pressure on your incision- especially when you caugh, sneeze, or even laugh! Also do it when you walk to-I would just hold it while walking- it helps.
Ok, well goodluck! You have a healthy baby it seems! :) Also- I tried walking, sex, driving over a bumpy road, everything, nothing got me to dilate anymore than I already was. It sucks! lol But once your water breaks (if it does) you will get harder contractions making you dilate even more. I still can't get over your doctor wanting the c-section no matter what! Do your best to have it natural... but know it's n ot your fault if you can't. I cried at first because I thought it was my fault. I did everything I could though. Goodluck!

I was induced with my first child. As well as my other two, however, with my first child, I was not dilated at all. My doctor did the gel, and he also did something as I can only explain as putting a tampon in. Sorry, can't remember what it was called, but that's how he explained it to me as how it was done. Anyways, it worked. I had her in 24 hours after the gel was inserted. I am also short. Only 5' 2". So I would try strongly to keep from the c-section. The only reason I could see him doing that is if the baby is too big and won't fit through the birthing canal. Since you have walked and tried having lots of sex, I really don't know what else to tell you to do.. Sorry. But just try to relax because the more tense you are, the longer it's gonna be. Good luck and congrats on the new baby.

I was 41 weeks when they stretched my cervix and three days later my baby ended up coming. Don't stress I know it is hard towards the end as you just want to get the baby out but they will come when they are ready to.
I walked heaps after 40 weeks and nothing happened the baby was still in there at 41 weeks. She ended up coming a week and a half late.
Most babies come late so don't stress your baby will come when they are ready and there is nothing you can really do about it.
Doctors usually just want to get the baby out also that is what I found if you are going through midwives they will wait about 10 or more days till they induce you.
Just try and wait as long as you can and something might happen your body has already started by opening 1cm. Don't worry about the short thing either that is wrong my friend is really short and her baby came two weeks early.

If you're 40 weeks along, and the doctor is giving you another week or so before getting things going one way or another; who knows - you could go from zero to transition regardless of how things look right now.
Your big worry right now is that you not go too long past the 40 weeks because the longer babies go past 40 weeks, the higher the chance of something going wrong. That should be your only concern, and as long as you know the doctor is ready to act on the date he gave you you should just relax; and if something happens earlier then great.
My babies were "in a hurry". I'd go from zero to baby in a couple of hours. My doctor remarked that maybe if I weren't so calm about everything the babies wouldn't have been so speedy (causing him to almost miss one delivery).
If I remember correctly, you're on this site posting questions all the time. It seems that you are very uptight and worried about all kinds of things. At this point just try to think of other stuff and get your mind off the pregnancy as much as possible. Maybe you've slowed down progress if you've been too uptight about everything that happens. (I'm not saying this is the case. I'm saying maybe it could be. I know tons of small women who have no problems delivering their babies if by "short" you mean short stature and not, say, a short birth canal.
Between now and the eight try to give your mind a vacation. It will have to be taken up more than you'll have energy for once the baby arrives. See if taking a mental break from all the pregnancy thinking you seem to be have been doing may let you relax enough to let things get underway sooner than it appears they will. (Listen to some super-relaxing music, use some aroma therapy of some sort, make sure you have fresh air in the house.)
Good luck. (I don't mean to come across as critical. I just thought observing your degree of uptightness seemed worth commenting on just in case that's what has slowed things down for you.)

Some doctors are more concerned about the possiblity of litigation if there are complications and encourage C-Sections. There is a very good possiblity that some pitocin or other drug to induce labor will be successful. It worked for me. My water broke about 11:00 pm and I was so excited I couldn't sleep, waiting for labor. We went to the hospital the next morning and they started an IV with Pitocin, which did the trick. My son was born at 7:11 pm after only a few hours of hard labor.

Well, you were graphic so my answer will be too....lol...I have 2 children so have some experience and dont embarrass easily...not anymore anyway....neck massager you know $5 at walmart .... put on belly or for personal fun.....the clitorial orgasm can cause stronger reaction....do not insert anything into the vagina....it's too dangerous....
they induced my second....lol....i went in for induction and when they checked me I was already 4 cm (4 weeks early with a 7lb 12 oz baby) They used an IV drip called pitosin which causes stronger contractions then they took this little pill smaller than a birth control pill and inserted it into the cervix to soften it....then about 2 hrs later they broke the water.....when they came in to give me an epidural they said they would check me afterwards...I grunted she said dont push I said I cant stop she shoved me onto my side and he came out to the nurse screeming Oh my G dont move or youll kick him off the bed.
I am surprised your doctor hasnt discussed pitosin with you as well as other methods....try calling a midwife number and see what they say....they are more for natural and will know exercises and other stuff you can do so your dr can deliver you instead of cutting.

That's strange that he would resort to a c-section so quickly. Do you have other factors such as being diabetic, out of curiosity? I am a gestational diabetic, and I was told that if it wasn't controlled and the baby got too big, they might have to do a section. Is this your first? I was dilated to a 1 with my first for a full month, and went 2 weeks past my due date, and still had a vaginal delivery. I'm sorry I don't know how to answer your question, i feel that there is something you might be missing in your details...

I didn't dilate with any of mine until labor began,,,he tried rupturing your membranes when he did that whole finger thing..it didn't work for me either a couple of contractions and nothing else...most women don't progress until labor...it surprises me he wanted to just go ahead and do a c section without trying labor first....I am only 5'3'' and all my babies have been over 8 lbs my last was 9lbs 9oz. it can be done and I only weigh 115 lbs myself///good luck Oh yeah do a lot of walking and sex believe it or not but something in the sperm triggers labor...

He can just induce your labor. I dont see the need to do a c section because your late. When I was induced they put pitocin in the IV bag. My friend was just induced 3 weeks ago and she wasnt ready either, but they used that pill on her and she had the baby about 14 hours later. So hopefully it will work for you. Good Luck
