I absolutely think that kids will not learn some of the basic principles to build a successful life if they are glued to a video game! And yes, I do remember playing outside, for HOURS, when I was a kid. The parents have to become more involved and proactive in limiting the time spent in front of the boob tube and encourage playing with other kids. Good question.

My children don't even own a game system. My son plays with yugioh cards a lot but I insist that he play outside for at least a couple of hours everyday (as long as his grades are good and he's not studying). I grew up in the country and I remember having so much fun playing outside as a child. I don't want my children to miss out on that fun. I see 5 and 6 year old kids now who can't even ride a bike, and people wonder why children are obese.

My son plays outside.... rides his bike, scooter, plays ball, plays with the neighborhood kids, and other outdoor activities. He has a gameboy... but no other video games,... and is only allowed to use non-internet programs on the computer unless I'm sitting with him to monitor what he's doing. Your statement is not true for all kids...
You also have to keep in mind... the computer/electronic knowledge that kids are learning are very important for their future. It is the way of the world, and any child that does not have basic knowledge will be at a disadvantage in school and later in careers. There has to be a balance.

Definitely. I think that today's youth are so integrated with today's technology that they don't realize/haven't been shown what they are missing. People need to find a way to teach the "old" principles as well as the "new" ones and make sure that the children put the keyboard down, go outside & take a deep breath from time to time before their brains are smothered by all the digital smog.

Oh, yes, always. The adventures we had, the explorations. Our imagination soared! What joy! And it didn't cost a penny. We got plenty of exercise and fresh air, and our mothers were free of us for a while and could get some reading done or finish the ironing in peace.
However, it was safe for us then to roam through the fields and woods, miles from home.

Camping, playing in the park with freinds...or even just walking around town.....kids these days all they do is sit around playing games and watch tv....but it's also the parents fault....they are paranoid to let their children go out and play....I used to go out from sun up til the lights came on when I was 8 yrs old.
My kids were exposed to a variety of things..from camping to just running around town to other outdoor activity....tv was very limited....computer time was very limited.

I believe that there are so many advantages to using technology, but I agree that they are missing out. Our kids are missing out on even more one to one interaction and just entrertaining yourself. I used to be stuck outside and not allowed in for hours while my mom cleaned the house. It was great!

Yes, during the summers I played outside *all day long*, however, my parents didn’t have to worry about me being kidnapped/raped/murdered/beaten by gangs/etc so I COULD go play outside all day without Mom having me in 'sight' every second to ensure I was safe.

remember walking to school barefoot in the snow uphill both ways? i dont either. kids suck these days. i wont let my kids play all the "cool" games, cause they are just mind wasting crap. so they dont even bother and find other ways to occupy themselves. and i watch every little thing they do on the computer. so theres no real interest there either. (and by the way 'paw' means parents are watching, for all of you moms and dads that didnt know)
