it probably won`t hurt her- in-laws are VERY resistant to germs, although i would make a good habit of flushing, hope the dog doesn`t mind sharing

WHAT BREED OF DOG IS SHE!
If she is a big dog - give a big bowl of
water and put it on an elevated platform
so it is easier to drink from.
If she is a small dog - next time you catch
her drinking out of the toilette, give her a little push,
close the lid and flush.

Get a child-proof lock to put on it. Or you could just hit her nose with a rolled up newspaper every time you catch her.
