Besides holding furniture I can not right now afford, Where else did names like these come from and why the boom in popularity?

I don't know why everyone picks the same name. I picked the name Daniel for my son, because I liked the name not because of being popular. I think the reason so many people pick the same name is, because its probably in all the baby name books. That's the only thing I can think of.

I named my son Aiden, but that was before it became popular. It surprised me that it did. I just like Irish names and Aiden is one that I chose. It doesnt sound bad to me. I love it and chose it because no one else had it. Then it became top of the list. Now Ethan and Skyler I dont like. I dont know anyone with the name Skyler though and Ive only known one Ethan from when I was a teen. Aiden is a very old Irish name.

My son who is a year old is named Ethan, I searched through over 10,000 baby names just to find a boy name I liked. It wasn't easy, but I really loved the name Ethan, and am so glad I chose it because it fits him very well. I'd think these names were around a very long time, not sure what you mean by prep frenzy though! People see a different name that isn't used very often, they like it, they use it. Who cares... sometimes it might have a meaning, sometimes after a family member. And sometimes just what they like.

I don't know about this "prep frenzy" comment but I think people have broken the "mold" and have opted for more original names. My daughters are named Hunter Anya and Ayla Katherine and funny enough that you should comment about the name Aiden (the way you spelled it) that is my son's name but spelled with a "y" (Ayden). My name is unusual itself so that is probably why I named my children such unique names. Besides why should all the "hollywood top eschelon" be the only ones who can be original when picking out names for their children??

its good that people have such different names. at work i called out the name michael and there was like 3 kids named michael.
there is just too many michael, john, and davids. its good when a name like ethan or skyler becomes popular.

Ethan Allen played a big part of Colonial American history many centuries before his name was used for the furniture store. I'm not familiar with the other two.

Well when my husband and I picked out our son's name we had no idea that Aiden was a popular name because neither of us know of anyone with that name. But we spell it Aden and put it as his middle name, so we don't feel bad when he goes to school and possibly having a few guys with the first name of Aidan(Aiden, Aden, Adin,Ayden, and more).
