1. Classes: All three "campaigns" (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall) have:
- Warrior (tank)
- Monk (healer/protector)
- Elementalist (nuker)
- Ranger (ranged damage-dealer/trapper/interrupter)
- Necromancer (nuker/support/master of the undead)
- Mesmer (anti-caster/hexer)
Factions has the 6 core, plus two additional classes:
- Assassin (lightly-armored damage-dealer)
- Ritualist (support class/buffer)
Nightfall has the 6 core, plus two additional classes:
- Dervish (lightly-armored damage-dealer/debuffer)
- Paragon (ranged attack/buffer/support)
Remember that everyone gets TWO of the classes, a primary and a secondary. You can make any combo you want.
2. Highest level is 20.
3. Yes, you can start your own guild. All of the big cities have NPCs you talk to if you want to make a guild. You can buy a cape for all guild members, a guild hall, and guild services with gold.
One guy said you have to do everything with a group. That's right, but you can still play the game without other people if you want. Guild Wars offers Henchmen, who are computer-controlled party members. This doesn't work for everything, but for 90% of the game it's fine. And if you get Nightfall, you get much better henchmen (called Heroes), ones you can equip and control, etc.
Other answerers were talking about World of Warcraft, which is a great game. I wrote a long thing about the differences, I put the link below. FWIW, I prefer GW -- everything in WoW has been done by 50 games before (although WoW does most things better, it does the same old things) and GW actually does some new stuff.

Forget Guild Wars man, dish out the extra monthly fee and buy World of Warcraft.
Larger community, level 60 cap (opposed to GW's level 20), many more items/weapons/armor, better races/class, more in-depth game.
Plus, in Guild Wars, it doesn't feel like an MMO. You only see everyone in the main towns, and then you form a small group to go out into the rest of the world.
In WoW, everyone is on the same server, so everyone shares 1 world, you have the ability to meet anywhere you want. Which makes world PvP much better.

I advise getting Guild Wars if you're not willing to pay extra monthly fee of 15 USD. If you are willing to pay 15 USD a month, it's better to buy World of Warcraft.
GW Pros and Cons
------------------------
+When traveling outside of town, you get an instanced map, meaning you only have your party playing on that map, and that minimizes killstealing or being randomly attacked while in the middle of a battle by enemy players.
+Free online play! Huzzah!
-Gameplay isn't very good, but it has its moments.
-You can only hold up to 8 skills and you can only change them while you are in town.
-4 character slots, but you get 2 more when you add an expansion.
-Level cap of 20
+-PVP is limited to arenas, which is bad, but at the same time, good, because that way, you won't get randomly attacked.
WoW Pros and Cons
--------------------------
+Great gameplay
+You can change your skills anytime, and you have like 8 bars that can hold up to 12 skills each.
+Level cap of 60
+You can create as many characters as you want on any server you like, and there are a lot of servers.
-Map is server wide, so you could be attacked by enemy at any time.
-15 USD monthly charge
+-PVP is not limited, you can fight anywhere and anytime, but if you're fighting people of the same alliance(like Alliance vs Alliance or Horde vs Horde), you will have to duel, which won't kill you, just knock you out.
Anyway, answering your questions.
1. There are warriors, who are close range fighters, rangers, who are long range fighters, monks who are healers, necromancers who steal life from enemies to heal themselves or enemies, mesmers who steal energy from enemies, and elementalists who use energy for distance attacks or close range combat. You start off as one and you can choose a secondary class.
2. Level cap is 20
3. To start your guild, you have to have like 1 platinum(1000 gold=1 platinum) which is quite a bit of money, and to recruit members, you have to spend 10 gold per invite.
So this is what I say to you.
Butters, go buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer and join the online sensation before we all murder you. Just kidding.

Never played that game, but according to almost everyone I've talked to, WOW is tons better. I do play WoW, and reccomend it.
$15 a month really isn't bad for the game, if you're worried about costs.

ritualist(GWF), warror, elementalist, assasin (GWF) and some other stuff. BUT DO NOT BUY THIS GAME you can only go to lv 20 and you need a group to do pretty much everything. Trust me i bought the game for my b day it's not very promising. Go for WOW (world of warcraft)
