Amen. I think it got generated when we forgot that we are all on the same side in the end. And when the politicians (all sides) forgot that their purpose was to represent the people and not themselves or big business (or any other lobby). The politicians want the citizens of this country divided because if we ever united they would all be out of a job.

It's always been there. It lays dormant most of the time, but come election time, and the natives get really restless. Understand something, these are not professionals we are dealing with, these are amateurs of the worst kind.
Professional politics is much the same as professional sales. When you explain yourself to a perspective buyer, you don't beat up on the competitive product he is now using. Instead, you point out the advantages of your product without slamming the competitive product. This gives the buyer a clear understanding of what you can do for him. He will also decide if your product is better for him than your competitors. He will admire your approach of not criticizing your competitor, and it will leave a positive thought in his mind, about you.
In retrospect, if you come out swinging and smearing your opponent with lies and innuendo, your character rating just went into the sewer. And, chances are, your quest to win an election will flush right along with your reputation.
I believe the Clinton's patented the technique you asked about. I can't remember this country being more divided politically, until he came to office.

Democracy is not dead, in fact it is finely coming back to life. All that creaking you hear is coming from long sleeping Americans standing up for honor.

No its still alive. If we didn't live in a Democracy this hatred wouldn't be here. We are all entitled to our own oppinion - which can include hatred.

I agree with you and it's getting worse.
People have always had different views and ideologies but now it's gotten nasty and hateful......and I think it chips away at our Democracy bit by bit.

In the US and most of the West it more or less is. Hate comes from lust, greed and power, and the unwillingness of people to not give up these these things.

When people decided gay marriage should be legal.
When people decided all abortions should be legal.
When food stamp system was creating and people cheated it.
When Bush got elected to form anti-bush americans.
When people think that Bush controls oil.
That's when it all started.
