He was a Republican Senator from Arizona and he is know as the father of Modern conservatism. He ran for President in 1964 against Lyndon Johnson and lost in one of the worst landslide elections in political history. Many said he lost the election because of his stand on the Viet Nam war. He wanted to win it. He told Sen. John McCain that if he has won the election that McCain would not have spent five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp. McCain answered back your right . I would have spent five years in a Chinese prison camp Many also say that the foundation for Reagen's victory in the 80 election was laid down during the 64 election. He continue to serve as a Senator. He served on the Senate Military committee and before he would vote on a plane he had to fly it. And the Air Force let him. The current version of the Republican party would do well to look back on this man and try to adopt his true conservative values and not the sham party values that the conservatives pay lip service to now adays.

I agree. I walked out on the Republican party in 1986 over Reagan's doublecross on economic coverage. If it hadn't been for that, the party's pandering to the religious correct would have achieved it. I have continually wondered why Senator Goldwater stayed. thanks for the question, i imagine I see it now. The Republican party hasn't ever achieved something for me in words of demographics and capacity and impact, so i became loose to go away over a dispute about ideology. Senator Goldwater had time, attempt and money invested in his close by branch so for him it became more effective perfect to stay if in any respect accessible and attempt to lead the party to the nicely perfect route. an same type of component works for loyalty to countries.
