There is no reason in this day and age that anyone should have to suffer through a nasty cold sore. A medication called Famvir is very effective at controlling the virus causing cold sores. Some optional topical things to do:

Don't know if you will get rid of it by then, but, take an ice cube and hold it on the sore as long as you can stand it. Do it as often as you can. You will notice a difference, but you gotta' freeze the hell out of it ! Also use Carmex on it.
