Oh, they're the "party of the poor" alright! The same way I'm the "human of oxygen". Victims are the life blood of the democrats.

They do better PR work. Their party split and formed the Republican party due mainly to the democratic stand on slavery.
Southern Democrats insisted on protecting slavery in all the territories while many Northern Democrats resisted. The party split over the slavery issue in 1860 at its Presidential convention in Charleston, South Carolina. In an election campaign that would be won by Abraham Lincoln and the newly formed Republican Party.

Do you think that instead the Republican party should be called the party of the poor? But then they would have to repeal their tax breaks to the top 1%, which according to you would be the Democratic leadership.

Most Democrats are middle class and some even rich...many Republicans are poor...It's not that the Democrats are the party of the poor, it the fact that the Republicans ideology is to protect the richest among us...richer Democrats are against ultra powerful people because they amount to kings in their power over the average person...it's a matter of ethics to believe that a person only need so much money to be perfectly happy.

No! Why do people always get that wrong? We are the party that cares about everyone. I am a democrat and I empathize with people who are down on their luck. I genuinely want to help them and leave this world a better place for my children.

This is why I like to use the term liberal to differentiate. These people are the ones who survived the Great Depression with their fortunes intact (i.e.: the robber barons). They enacted social legislation to literally save their necks, after they impoverished the nation.
The democrats are being misled by these people who have only their own interests at heart and will destroy the middle class.

But yet they try to lower taxes for the poor rather than the rich as the republicans do. Yeah that is strange isn't it?

Well, it seems their ultimate objective is to make everyone poor, so I think it fits. They hate the rich and are always trying to take their money and have the government spend it.
