Since you didn't say how many circuits or fuses are involved, or the age of the wiring, I can only give you a range. The boxes themselves start fairly inexpensively, around $50-$100, but the other materials, such as wire, extra breakers and other supplies could run another $50-$100. Assuming you're talking about a single family residence, with professional labor, you're probably talking about a minimum of $300, and in many homes a range of $500 to $1,000. This can run a lot more than this if the home wiring also needs to be upgraded to meet code requirements
Doing this work may well qualify you for a discount on your home owner's insurance policy.

You are correct you have no ground at the receptacles and yes you can change out an old receptacle with a GFIC but be careful don't jump on that band wagon just yet. This is what I would suggest you do, Contact an electrical contractor who is licensed by the state in which you live. Check him out on your own ask if you would be allowed to see some of his work, call the BBB to see if there are or have been any complaints against the contractor. Get few bids for the job listen to what they have to say, ask what brand of panel and breakers they would use, time it would take to do the job finally cost. Good luck and I hope you do this. By the way the bids should be free don't pay for them.
