Whatever test you take you must score in the 98th percentile or above to qualify for Mensa. That's the top 2% of all the people who have taken the test. On the Stanford-Binet test, thats about 140 to 145. I joined Mensa in the 70's but didn't keep up with it. IQ tests scores are probably overrated.

Most people here are lying about their IQ.

127 is a high IQ. Only about 1 in 30 score that high. Or, she's in the top 3.5% of the population.

You would expect that to be above the average in a first year university calculus class.

IQ's of over 160 are considered to be extremely rare, 160 is defined as 1 in 32000, or the top 0.001% of the population.

You would only expect to find a few people with an IQ of over 160 on even large, high ranked university campuses.

As such, most tests don't even score that high.

Even an absolutely perfect score on the standford benet, IE every single god damn question right (it is a very long test) yields a score of 166, and is achieved by very few (about 1 in 200,000)

She should take the IQ test for the international IQ society. If she does have an IQ of 127 she will be invited to join. Anything over 124 is in the top 10th percentile of the population. She is very smart with that score.

Understanding IQ Scores

IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Supposedly, it is a score that tells one how “bright” a person is compared to other people. The average IQ is by definition 100; scores above 100 indicate a higher than average IQ and scores below 100 indicate a lower that average IQ. Theoretically, scores can range any amount below or above 100, but in practice they do not meaningfully go much below 50 or above 150.

Half of the population have IQ’s of between 90 and 110, while 25% have higher IQ’s and 25% have lower IQ’s:

Descriptive Classifications of Intelligence Quotients

IQ

130+

120-129
Superior

110-119
High average

90-109

80-89
Low average

70-79

Below 70
Extremely low

Apparently, the IQ gives a good indication of the occupational group that a person will end up in, though not of course the specific occupation. In their book, Know Your Child’s IQ, Glen Wilson and Diana Grylls outline occupations typical of various IQ levels:

140
Top Civil Servants; Professors and Research Scientists.

130
Physicians and Surgeons; Lawyers; Engineers (Civil and Mechanical)

120
School Teachers; Pharmacists; Accountants; Nurses; Stenographers; Managers.

110
Foremen; Clerks; Telephone Operators; Salesmen; Policemen; Electricians.

100+
Machine Operators; Shopkeepers; Butchers; Welders; Sheet Metal Workers.

100-
Warehousemen; Carpenters; Cooks and Bakers; Small Farmers; Truck and Van Drivers.

90
Laborers; Gardeners; Upholsterers; Farmhands; Miners; Factory Packers and Sorters.

An IQ of 100 is average. Anything above 100 is considered "Above Average". 127 is basically fairly good. However, I'm 20, and my IQ has been recorded at 148. I'm considered to just be quite intelligent.
Tell her it's a good score: Well above average, but by no means fantastic.

Depending on the scale, if the total scale is 1 to 200, then 127 is considered above average, but some scales have a max iq of 170 or 160, then it would be quite good.

Intelligence is over rated!!
And the way that IQ is measured is quite suspect as any test is subjective to the person who set the test.

Social class can alter any reading because of the different aspirations within class levels.

Most methods have their short falls and are only an indication of intelligence! But these tests are far from being an exact science.

Plus the most important thing is - who the hell cares? Its not a prerequisite on which I base a friendship!

It's a little higher than average; the average person's IQ is 100. The IQ is found by dividing the mental age by the physical age and multiplying the result by 100.

Would like to now what IQ test she did because the internet ones are useless. To get a more realistic score you have to ask MENSA to send you a test.
I think the middle IQ rate is around 100, and you have to be at 200 to join mensa. Don't quote me on this.
But I don't think intelligence is based mainly on IQ I think there are different forms, creativly or practically.

In most schools, 130 is considered "gifted". When i was tested in first grade, I got a 131, which apparently is in the top 2.2%. I am now a senior in high school.

Relatively speaking, with other tests, this summer I got a 32 on my ACT. IQ is potential.
Think of yourself as a cup...her cup is bigger, it can hold more information. But don't let that fool ya....many people have above average IQs, but they don't use their gifts...they don't "fill" up their cup. Your friend has the potential to be very sucessful in life...even more of a potential than most others, but she has to recognize that she has to fill up her cup. hope this helps
