I know that i cant just go out tommorow and suddenly become the next Pete Carrol, but i just need to know how I can get some experience in order to get started in a coaching career, since i have none. Is there anywhere online that can help me with some resources or networking? How do i get started at the bottom level of coaching? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that most college coaches begin on the High School level - preferably in the Prep School Leagues - and earn a reputation by having several successful seasons.

Some coaches start as Assistants on the college level and work their way up that way. It usually helps to have "connections" to start out on this level, though.

Start off by talking to the coaches on your high school team about working with them and studying under them and helping them out how you can. Keep that up when looking into colleges, and--if it is practical enough for you--talk to the football coaches at the schools you go to about doing the same with them; studying under them and being their assistant. You're obviously not just going to walk onto a college program and coach them. You've got to start slow and low on the totem poll. Maybe even look into your school's middle school team and start helping the coaching staff out there. The main this is that you are going to have to show you are willing to learn under established coaches and that you will do whatever they ask. Be a quick learner, accept what they tell, and try to absorb all the information you can.

Have you noticed that most coaches at the college level played college football. Unless this is John David Booty, I'd shoot for coaching high school.

If you start by coaching at the High School level you will need a teaching credential. Any way you go you will need a degree to get going.

All you need is a pair of Bike coach's shorts and a whistle.
