.7l+.5s=580
.7l+.5(1000-l)=580
.7l+500-.5l=580
.2l=80
l=400
s=1000-l=600

.7*400+.5*600=280+300=580

400 x .70 and 600 x .50
Since 1,000 at .50 would be only $500. take the extra $80. and divide them by the difference of the .50 and .70 or 80/.20
That will give you the number of .70 sodas he sold.
Take that number off 1,000 and you have the number of .50 sodas sold.

1) x = large sodas, y = small sodas. x + y = 1000, .7x + .5y = 580. Solve for either.
