We all know the BCS should be shortened to just BS, so how would you fix it?

Here's what I would do:
Each major conference is required to have a championship game. The 6 conference winners make the playoffs. Then you have two "At Large" teams, most likely coming from the Big 10 and SEC unless those conferences have some kind of off-year. And Notre Dame is not allowed to whine. If they dont want to join a conference, then they'd better make sure they get the "At Large". These 8 teams would be seeded 1 to 8 (using the BCS system if we must) and they'd then play out the bracket to determine a title game and champion. January could be as much fun as March!

This is the second post of this question b/c I wanted to clarify something. In my playoff, the 4 first round games would be the Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and the Sugar Bowl, the next rounds games would be new "major bowl" (i.e. Kellog's Cereal Bowl and Kohler Toilet Bowl). Then you'd have the National Championship.

Okay one more thing. The other little bowls would still exist for the teams that didnt qualify for the playoffs and the playoffs wouldnt start until all the minor bowls are over with.

I have had similar ideas to what you stated. It seems the most logical right now in all this BS. And I agree, Notre Dame would not be allowed to whine. Good Question, and excellent scenairo yourself- I would give you best answer

To fix the BCS, I think first off we have to do away with the whole idea of giving conferences automatic picks, b/c it doesn't allow for any parity! I have seen many outstanding and deserving so-called "mid-major" schools left out in January simply because they were in the MAC, Mountain West, WAC, Sun Belt Conference, etc. If there is such a division between the "Elite" schools and the "Mid-majors," as they like to call them, then why do we have an NCAA Div I-AA, II, and III? Maybe we need another division?
Another problem is the current rankings, I can see the coaches ranking, but the media? Its a favoritism contest. A school like Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc. can lose one game and still be in the top ten, granted they may lose to a tougher opponent, but they don't drop very far. A small school like University of Toledo, Louisville, etc. can beat 2-3 ranked opponents in a season, be about to break the top ten, lose a conference game against an old rival, and the next week drop completely off the map. A bigger school could conceivably crawl back into the top five with one loss.
So, yes the system is broken but how to fix it? I say take some of the power away from the big money conferences and let the little guys play. Its good to see the Louisvilles and Boise States in there once in awhile. I say let the BCS bowls go back to the way they were (or invite whoever they want,) let those teams beat each other up, then have an Elite Eight playoff after the Rose Bowl.

each and every convention has a convention championship. that's the first six. Then, ten at-tremendous bids. So, if the established season convention winner would not win the conf. championship, they nonetheless can get a bid. The bids are determined through a score equipment really like the BCS. Any crew from a non-important convention that's contained in the authentic 16 receives an automatic bid. If Notre Dame is contained in the authentic 16, they get an automatic bid. the authentic seeds get abode video games contained in the first and 2d round. the ultimate 4 is then performed in a 2 week time span on a similar website (Rose Bowl, and so on..). The bowl equipment remains intact for those communities which do not make the authentic 16.

I would adopt the system that the NCAA uses in its other divisions to decide their champion. Seems to work for them, and I would make sure that the corporate sponsorship went away as well, because I really dont care if its the Nokia this or Tostitos that. Your solutions major flaw is leaving out teams like Boise State from the WAC, and Notre Dame(join a conference yeah right). Thats how it should work just like it does in other divisions, no conference gets special treatment and the best teams are represented.

Use the bowls as playoff games. Play the Championship game in one of the four Major bowls.
