I wonder if what you are asking is "why are people so different". What is the definition of evil? (I DO believe that there is such a thing as 'evil', but that people generally do not identify themselves with it.)

if Hitler had KNOWN he was evil, would he have done what he did? I think that on some level his delusion was so grand and the people he surrounded himself with participated in this, that they honestly did not think of themselves as evil.

I have not met too many people who said "hmm... I wonder how I can be MORE evil today..." -this is not to say that there aren't some demented people out there who DO do this, but they are an aberation. one could even say that they are a failing of society.

I have lately been thinking that maybe evil should be equated with delusional. Only a delusional person can kill another person, for they do not see in the other the light which is in us all.

It's how you define evil, good in one person eyes may be evil and evil may be good.
Look over the centuries, what was considered Nobel and good then may seem evil now and vice verse.
What makes people evil, could be many things, mental illness and so on.
"Our background and circumstances
may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become"

I believe some people are just born that way .I don't think anyone sets out to be evil they are just that way .I have two sons ,and one is very sweet and considerate . The other however I had to put out of my house ,and he is only eleven .He started fire's ,Tried to molest my little girl ,locked her in a dark basement laundry room because she threatened to tell . Stole things Beat on his little brothers .You name it .His father died when he was very small ,and had no influence in his life yet he was just as evil .I believe it is just his genetic makeup.Although he knows what he is doing when he does it he can offer no explination as to why he does it. He feel no compassion whatsoever .Since age five I have had him tested over and over ,yet they have yet to diagnose exactly what is causing this behavior or offer a solution.

people aren't born evil but their life experiences turn them ''evil''... some feel that they have been wronged by the world and reject everything it represents. those are the people you see walking around with a big chip on their shoulder, while others take it further.....these are the real sick people in the world...the murderers and rapist........why they turn evil to any degree is all about life experiences and how that person interprets things.

There could be many reasons. Just keep in mind nobody was born evil; it's the conditions, surrounding people and other bad influences on one's life and personality.

To satisfy their own greed. I agree with post before that we are animals. Animals compete. Sometimes competition is evil.

I don't know...because we are animals, we have a tendency to look out for number one. That still doesn't explain anyone who sacrifices their own race for their own gratification.
