Japan is number 2 in the world in GDP,we do not call Japan even a regional power. After gaining independence America won against Spain,Mexico, two world wars and many small battles to become a super power. To maintain this status we spend 500-600 billions annually on defence. If India can do all that in next 13 years, sure it will be called a super power in 2020.

I think it is a great posibility. I think the world is going the way of the East. China, Japan, and India have a large posibilty of running a lot more around the world.

However, still a large number of Indian people migrate to the western world looking for work. Also, they are at a continuous war with Pakistan really. And so many Pakistani people are coming into India and, in a way, bringing down their economy from the inside. Also, they are suffering from the radical muslim community first hand. And because of the mountainous region between the two countries it is very hard to regulate illegal immigration - much the same with the US/Mexico immigration problem.

And currently, the rupee is about 98 to 1 GBP and 45 to 1 USD ( I think, I'm roughing those numbers), so they have a long way to go still. But with the rapid decrease of the Western World, you can bet there is a great possibility.

I wish this infatuation with being a superpower will end. Indians I speak to often insist that they will be a "real" superpower before China. I have also heard this in reverse from Chinese. What is in it for the common man? Nothing. India has very far to go to solve it's issues of poverty and class structures that imprison so many. Any attempt to resolve just these two social blights would be a worthy effort. The global financial turmoil does not help anybody. It serves to stultify growth. Having nuclear weapons or exploring the moon are an awful waste of resources just to appease a few egos. Do not try to emulate America's achievements of the past. In the longer run India and China will be capable of leading a new cultural and spiritual Renaissance based on the accumulated wisdom of their histories. That is my wish for them.

It is not Possible by 2020. But it will take atleast 60 years from now. I have the strong reason for that. China is leading us in terms of GDP,military power,Space technology and in everything. Our GDP is approx 800 Billion $ and GDP of USA is 12000 Billion $. GDP of China is approx 1500 Billion $ .Every year we have GDP growth rate of maximum 20%.

We have not yet finished our mission to Moon called Chandriyan-I,We dont have Intercontinental ballistic missile technology which can launch missile for more than 5500 kilometers. We have only intermediate range ballistic missile technology.

Most of our population lives below poverty line. Most part of India have no proper roads.

You can imagine if we satisfy all the conditions below we can hope to become Superpower.

1. Every family in India should have Car and no two wheelers should be allowed,

2. Every person's minimum monthly income/salary should be 2000 USD Rs.100,000(one Lakh).

3. Implement strict Environment policy, good Highways, roads which connects all the part of india.

4. Get rid of slums(joped pattis) in around metropolitan cities in India.

5. Connect river ganges with river cauvery to get plenty of water for South Indian agriculture.(It will take minimum 15 years to complete)

6. Implement Sedu samudra scheme which allows International Sea traffic through Indian waters which will fetch lot of money for India,

7. Implement 25% flat income tax for all people irrespective of rich or poor like in USA. If nobody pays tax how india will become superpower?

8. Remove reservation/quotas and encourage pure genuine talented people for modern india,

9. Complete our moon mission by 2008 as scheduled,

10. Spend money on research of Intercontinental ballistic missile

By the time we finish all the above it will be 2065 and india will be superpower. It is stupid and day dream if we think we can be superpower by 2020 . Any scientist cannot prove that. Scientist can calculate in terms of seconds when the rocket will land in space why can not calculate all this.

So Please cool down and watch HBO channel for more fiction movies.

I dont think so, I think never. Strong reason is that each and everyday common man has to struggle to death in order to survive. In addition, we are #7 in the world, as a corrupt nation. Plus discrimination/genocide is way on the rise. There are many examples of this but the recent one just happned in the state of Gujrat, where under the supervision of local police, an organized mass murder had taken place under the leadership of terrorist governmet of Narendra modi. Prosperity does not survives where corruption thrives, so you are talking a very long shot...

yes it is possible and no it is not possible
it is possible because as the population of our country is going on increasing the competition is increasing and thus the time arrives that everyone is fully educated and knows everything about market, devices and etc. due to which the chances of invention, discovery and other factors increases
it may also not possible because due to corruption because this things are creating a lot of problems like parliament questions nowadays then defense corruption, police, enterance for admission and many other factors

We can never be the super power.

Pakistan will bomb us with Atom
bombs and finish us.

The Indian leaders never want us
to become one and want all the
citizens to die of hunger or
atom bomb attacks from Pakistan.

We have no Patriotic Leaders
in the country, who love its citizens.
