I heard that it had something to with the Earth's axis. But I don't understand why we change our time for this?

I'm suprised no one knew this. Daylight savings time originated several decades ago when there was a lot more farms and ranches in the U.S. Daylight savings was instituted so it would still be light for a few hours after school and the kids could help with the work.
Then it was discovered that, by turning the clocks forward at the beginning of summer, we could save electricity, since it would dealy by a few hours people having to turn their lights on.
This is almost useless nowadays, since lights are not the problem with sucking up electricity in the summer: air conditioners are! But back then there weren't so many a/c's. So alot of people--rightfully so--think that daylight savings time has outlived its usefullness and we should abolish it. Arizona doesn't have it, and they do fine!

I heard when my kids were young and in school that it is actually done for the kids that have to ride the buses so they are not standing in the dark to long in the morning. By rolling the clock back daylight comes a little earlier. Don't know if it's true, but that's what I heard and it makes sense to me. Safety for children.

to put it simply, to save daylight. if we didn't roll out clocks back in the fall it would be bright and sunny at 5 in the morning and dark at 5 at in the evening. and vice versa for advancing our clocks in spring.

they decided to have everyone move their clocks back an hour in the winter so we could have more daylight every day, since it gets dark earlier in the winter.
