Mine was The Omen ( the original one).for ages after seeing it on TV. When the sequels came out I could'nt even look at the adverts.Even the even the ones in newspapers!
I blame my mum for falling asleep in front of the tv and not telling me to go to bed when it came on. Though I would'nt have listened any way:)

Mom was watching Poltergeist and I was in bed trying to sleep but I could see the light from the TV flickering on my bedroom door and hear all the screaming and monster noises and I was terrified!
"Go towards the light Carol Ann!"
The movie that I actually saw that really frightened me as a child was Child's Play and Pet Semetary.
"Sometimes dead is better."
I used to really like the serial killer type movies (Jason and Michael) but what gets me now is more the psychological thrillers.
Huge confession here. I watched Rosemary's Baby for the first time a few years ago (I was maybe 20-21) and that night I wet the bed! Not too many movies get me any more but that one sure did.

A long time ago back in the 70's I think there was a made for TV movie called Trilogy of Terror, starring Karen Black. It was 3 short movies the first two were crappy, but the last one with the Zuni Fetish Warrior! Man I was freaked out for months. It was horrible! I must have been about 8 or 9. Take a look at the link and your repressed memories of fear will return.

I saw Poltergeist when I was 5 or 6 on HBO, right after it first came out in the 80's. I ended up having nightmares for six months, and it took me years to get over my uneasiness of television static. I finally re-watched the movie in its entirety for the first time, and I was surprised to see that it is actually a witty, well-done film (as those sorts of things go).
I am thankful that this was the worst movie I saw as a child - considering my reaction I can't imagine how I would have handled Omen!

A really BAD japanese monster movie called "War of the Gargantuas". It must be an age thing because when I was like 35 I met a guy the same age who was scared Sh*tless from the same movie. I used to watch all the Godzilla movies from under a blanket peeking out through a hole, crying like a baby but never letting anyone turn it off.

I watched Scanners as a kid and I havn't seen it since but the images still creep me out. I was very scared at the time, a close second would have to be the Shining with Jack, very scary!!!!!
my favorite kind of horror is like the grudge or the ring where there is no violence, but if creeps you out all the same...

There was a movie about giant grasshoppers that was shown on TV when I was young. The movie wasn't too scary but according to the plot the grasshoppers were going to pass right by our house on the way to Chicago and eventually Lake Michigan. We kept looking out the windows to see them.

The original '63 version of The Haunting of Hill House. I was so terrified that I had to sleep in my parents' room... and I was 13.
I even saw it again in college, for film class, and it scared me then. It's funny that it scares me so much as I don't even believe in the existence of ghosts.
