I'm talking about herbivores, animals who only eat plants. Plants are not a source of B-12.

Some organisms are able to make it themselves. Just because something is a vitamin for humans doesn't mean that it is for everything. So, while humans have to consume vitamin C in our diets, nearly every other organism makes it themselves. I'm guessing that's the case with B-12, too.
