She should have done something but some people just don't have the balls (courage) it takes to get involved. She was too scared of being mauled herself, but still, it was a child and I would have at least tried to distract it or done what I could have without endangering myself. Calling the police and cowering in a corner is pretty shameful. This will probably be something that will haunt her for a long time and maybe she will change and be more courageous next time around.

I would have tried something, get a baseball bat, a garden hose, a rake, SOMETHING to get the dog off of the child! By the time the police got there, the child could be dead.
