I'm looking to upgrade my PC's Video which has an AGPx2 port on it - which means it does not support any of the modern AGP or PCI-Express video cards. Without considering ripping out the motherboard, the only upgrade path I have is to use a PCI Video Card. Is the performance increase I will gain by upgrading my GPU enough of a benefit to moving my video processing onto the (shared) PCI bus? Has anyone else ever done this?

Thanks!

Don't quite now what the last guy was talking about, PCI is PCI, you said right in your question you knew you didn't have PCI Express. They make a Radeon X1300 for PCI, and it would definately be better than what you have, however don't expect it to play modern games at high levels.

PCI bus, is the white slot's on your motherboard is completely different than the new PCI Express which is black in most cases, thus PCI is not good solution for your problem, cause its slower than AGP which in your case is 2X and the latest of it is 8X, but PCI express is 16X. I would advice you to change your motherboard, or you can get an 8X AGP card and install it in your 2X AGP slot, sure you will loose the 6X, but you can get a better GPU?

Don't be confused with your PCI slots with latest PCI video cards.
Those are two different slots. Your motherboard is old and is only compatible with AGPx2 video cards. Even AGPx8 cards will not run efficiently on your motherboard.

the quantity speaks for itself. 7050 to 8600? thats way too far. a 7300gt is 3times decrease than the 8600gt. so imagine how efficient the 8600gt is. attempt puuting video games on medium or hgh settings. the 8600 can deal with that... i cnt believe that an 8600 does not carry out nicely. thats impossble. What "high quality" are you speaking about? is it the vista interface? or video games? if vista laptop, then it might in basic terms strengthen quite.. in video games, wide distinction.. and that cant play hd video clips and bluray stuff. the 8600gt can play it easily... or perhaps you dnt have drivers, that would want to nonetheless overtake your outfitted in graphcs.. further information: snap shots card have both a 6pin or 8 pin.. 4pins are molex and used for cd drives.. 8600gt doesnt want a accessible connector. the 8600GTS does.. yet not the 8600gt.. so what 4pin capacity are you speaking about?
