HIt the Alt key, hold it and then the 3 key on the # keypad on the right (Alt + 3). Let go of both and you get a heart ♥

Alt + other numbers also give you other characters like (Alt + 1-15:)

1.Click on start
2. All programs
3. Accessories
4.System Tools
5. Click on Character map

at the character map program make sure an ordinary font is highlighted at the top where it says "Font: Help" pick a font like arial. anyway after that scroll down until you find the heart, as well as all other shapes and symbols you'd like.

The best way to do this is to open Microsoft Word, click on Insert and then Symbols. Make sure "Symbol" is selected as the font and you should find the heart. Copy it and then paste it whereever you want.
