In most hospitals they do not allow ecroding while in labor and while pushing the baby out. Do you know why?

One word: lawsuit.
If they messed up or something went wrong in anyway, you'd have a videotape that could be entered into evidence.
Talk to your doctor and see what his policy is and what the policy at your hospital is.

In my hospital they allow it. My friend (who lives in CA) had her mom tape her birth. The baby came out blue and the last thing you heard was the doctor saying "turn that tape off". The baby ended up being fine but I think people on here are right about having proof in case something goes wrong.

In case the doctors make a mistake, someone else could see it and they could get sued. Plus, the person with the camera may get in the way of the doctors when trying to get shots of the baby. I'm going to let my patients tape their child being born when I deliver them.

L-A-W-S-U-I-T-S!! My doctor didn't allow it either but our camera has a film feature to it. And without anyone knowing my husband recorded the entire event -- tastefully I might add since I had a c-section!. It was very cool for me to see afterwards since I got cheated out of giving birth naturally and was basically forced to have a c-section.

Fear of malpractice suits. It sometimes looks really bad when the doctor twists the baby's head halfway around while yanking it out of the mother. They don't want any evidence that they might have injured a baby during delivery.

To protect against lawsuits. Our hospital told us they had problems with people editing the tapes to make it look like something wrong happened, then the people used it to file a malpractice suit.

They didn't allow it at the hospital where I gave birth, but cameras are so small these days we were able to tape it and nobody knew it. My MIL had a little camera and someone asked her "still or film" she said still and they said OK. She filmed everything!

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it may have something to do with Malpractice suits? I think that if something goes wrong the doctor probably doesn't want it on tape. They(all docs) try to cover their behinds now that malpractice lawsuits have gone threw the roof, but that's just my opinion.

That's a good question, and I am not sure why. When my sis in law was delivering they wouldn't even let them take snap shots of the head coming out. I don't know why though. I never thought much of it till now.
